Operation Smile

Khiri Reach has been working with Operation Smile Thailand to provide support to these amazing medical and professional teams that have reached out to the farthest corners of the Kingdom with their medical mission trips to change children’s lives forever. Approximately one in every 500 babies in Thailand is born with a cleft lip or cleft palate. Though curable with a 1-hour operation, many of these children face social, geographic and/or economic barriers that keep them from getting the medical attention they need.

Not surprisingly, children with untreated cleft lips and/or cleft palates are far more common in rural Thailand than in urban areas. If left untreated, they often have difficulty breathing, drinking, eating and speaking. As a result, many suffer from malnutrition, and medical and psychological problems.

Operation Smile Thailand is an exceptional non-profit organization that provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children throughout Thailand. It also provides post-operative care including speech pathology and orthodontics. In the last few years, Operation Smile has travelled to remote areas to perform more than 7,000 free surgeries for children in the Kingdom of Thailand, as well as in neighbouring Laos and Myanmar.
